Christmas Pyramids

Although Christmas pyramids (Weihnachtspyramide) have their roots in the folklore and customs of the Ore Mountain region of Germany, they have been increasingly popular around the world. The Christmas pyramid is a kind of carousel with several levels, usually depicting motifs such as nativity scenes, angels, and Santa Clause. A spinning motion is achieved with the help of candles whose rising heat spins a propeller above; creating a whimsical play of light and shadow. In most cities in the Ore Mountains there are large Christmas pyramids on the Market Square at the Christmas Market or in other locations associated with the holiday festivities. The quality and beauty of thesehandmade pyramids make them a timeless classic.
